All at Once, 2024

digital photography & found materials (white mini fridge, incense & incense holder, magnets, wrappers, personal notes)
36”x30”

All at Once was created for Merrimack Repertory Theater’s showcase of Dishwasher Dreams. The play explores immigration, family dynamics, and sacrifices one must make to reach their dreams. I was inspired by the functionalities of a fridge such as a storage and display space. The surface presents the “reasonable” aspects of life we attend to first before considering our deepest desires. I mixed elements of lightheartedness through childhood drawings, affirmations, and candy wrappers to signify that the essence of creativity and curiosity can shine through. Incense can be used to project prayer, wishes, and hopes. The fridge conceals our hopes and dreams from reaching the surface until we decide to take them out.

 Lifeline, 2023

cyanotype, fresh flowers, photo prints, glue, tape
27”x16

This project was created during my time as a member of the SEA Change Lab’s Winter 2023 cohort. Lifeline serves as a silent conversation between my parents and I. Fishing and agriculture is a big part of Cambodian culture. It fuels us and serves as a means of survival. This piece showcases how creating is one of my forms of survival as fishing does for my parents.

DISTANCE, 2022

film photography, parent's wedding photo, photoshop collage

Distance is an observation of my parent’s relationship. Growing up I would look at their wedding photos and perceive that they radiated love. As I’ve gotten older and continue to take their photos, I noticed some differences from the pictures I grew up looking at. They stopped putting their arms around each other and would have physical gaps between them. I split and layered one of their wedding photos onto a recent photo to show the growing distance between them.
